Meet Maxine Palmer, our Senior Growth Adviser

Written by Growth Works

We caught up with senior growth advisor Maxine Palmer to find out a bit more about her role at Growth Works, what she is working on and how her summer has been so far!

Can you tell us a bit more about your role at Growth Works?

I support SMEs with 1:1 growth coaching advice and funding, my patch is usually the north of the region so Peterborough, Fenland, sometimes South Kesteven and South Holland districts.  Lots of the companies I work with are updating websites and working on their marketing and I can support them with funding.  I work with lots of referral partners, business coaches, web developers in the region who refer their existing and potential clients to me.  I also attend networking events to make sure everyone has heard of and has access to Growth Works.

So to support your clients on their growth journey you must have some great experience to draw on?

My background is business development / client engagement in both private and public sector organisations. More recently I have set up and grown a successful small business myself. Having faced the challenges of staff recruitment/retention, working through a pandemic, managing cash flow, writing tenders and bidding for work, my experience helps me to overcome the challenges that my clients are facing.

What exciting projects are you currently working on?

I’m working with a high growth building company on improving their branding and website, a motorsports engineering/manufacturing business to apply for a capital grant for a big piece of kit that will enable them to go for high value contracts.  I’m also coaching a fish and chip takeaway/restaurant owner that wants to increase turnover.

What seems to be the biggest challenge your clients are facing right now?

This varies month to month, recruiting quality, qualified personnel to the impact of the delays on sourcing materials and the spiralling costs of absolutely everything.

What’s the secret to business success?

Determination

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the variety of my clients, one minute I could be in an Indian restaurant the next in a beauty product manufacturing company. I enjoying hearing their start up stories through to their growth plans.

What do you love most about living in Peterborough?

I live in north Peterborough in a rural village in the countryside and the best thing is the rail links being able to get to Leeds and London in no time.

What do you like to do when you aren’t busy advising clients?

Spending time with my 13 year old daughter and our pet dogs Rosie & Freddie and pony Mickey.

Have you managed to get away for a well-deserved break during the summer holidays?

We had a fabulous holiday in Ibiza with my partner, daughter and brother and his family and looking forward to spending Christmas in New York.
