Martin Lipscombe

Martin graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Microbiology, and holds a PhD from the University of Warwick for research in Vaccines and Molecular Biology. This research was sponsored by a major international pharmaceuticals company and involved two years’ work in their laboratories. Martin joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1999.

He handles a wide range of subject matter and has considerable experience in representing clients in opposition proceedings at the European Patent Office. He is also highly active in trade mark and design matters, both in the UK and elsewhere.

Martin’s experience covers most areas of intellectual property including: drafting and prosecution of patent applications; Freedom-to-operate and infringement/validity opinions and advice; particular experience in sectors such as life sciences, medical devices, diagnostics, nutraceuticals, but also packaging & foods; also experienced in trade mark matters (both contentious and non-contentious issues), and registered designs.

His technical areas include:

  • Diagnostics and bioassays
